Indigenous Peoples is focused on Canadian first peoples (though so much of the stories are intertwined with the USA as well). This unit doesn't hide from anything, we talk about residential schools, reconciliation, cultural appropriation, bias and prejudice, racism, and so much more! Filled with rich discussions and an opportunity to learn more about our past, I personally recommend that every family in Canada and the United States does this unit to broaden their understanding of some of the residual ripples that are still felt to this day.
Our mini units are designed to be more targeted and focused rather than broad and far-reaching. In our first Canadian mini-unit where we will dig into the history of Indigenous Peoples of Canada to current time! You don't want to miss this one! From history to residential schools to modern advances and social implications, this is deep and wide my friends!
Not sure what a mini unit is?
Though some of our holiday units have fewer lessons, most of our mini's include 20 lessons, the same as our mains. The difference is that rather than tying in all your subjects, it is specifically focused on one topic (with no apologies). The Teacher's Guide lessons are often shorter, and there are only 2 student notebook pages instead of 5. The student pages are lighter, requiring less written output. In this way you can mix and match with full units to have lighter and heavier academic months, OR you can do it alongside a full unit!

Our mini units are 20 lessons long and designed to go along with and/or supplement our main units. They are not as in-depth or as large as our main units, with only 2 pages in each student book per lesson instead of 5.
