Let’s head on down to the good ol’ South, where the tea is sweet and the chairs are a-rockin’! Mississippi is the nation’s 20th state, the namesake of the country’s biggest river, the birthplace of Elvis, and the host to the farmland that grows all sorts of American food staples. The Magnolia State’s deltas and moss-draped pines hold history, music, and a culture all their own. We will travel through Clarksdale, Natchez, Biloxi, and Vicksburg National Military Park while studying the petrification process and the raw resources that set off Mississippi’s economy. We will look at the birth of spirituals and how they were tied to enslaved people in America, as well as the history of segregation and civil rights that played out in the South. Our spotlight focuses on Jim Henson and his imagination and creative thinking that brought the world the Muppets. Student Book activities include alliteration, using natural dyes, siege warfare, gardening hardiness zones, and ventriloquism.

This unit is designed to cover all of your subjects (math available separately).
