Welcome to Ancient Egypt
This Ancient Egypt unit blends history and biblical study into a hands‑on, story‑rich experience for students of all ages. Each lesson includes a Bible page focused on the plagues of Egypt and the exodus of the Israelites, while Ussher’s chronology anchors the historical timeline. Students explore how the pyramids were built, how families lived, and how modern tools help us understand hidden chambers and ancient writing. Notebooking pages and activities in the Student Book—like building a water clock—keep learning active and accessible. Every lesson connects the past to the student’s world today, showing why this history matters. Throughout the unit, students will create a Story Guild project that invites them to tell what they’ve learned in a memorable, meaningful way.
Science
Learn about the natural environment and technologies connected to Ancient Egypt through topics such as the Nile River and its flood cycles, papyrus plants and boats, cloth making, simple tools, erosion and limestone, mummification and embalming, papyrus paper and reed pens, ancient medicine and natural remedies, and modern tools such as sonar mapping and ROVs.
Geography
Study the geography of Ancient Egypt through locations and landmarks including the Sahara Desert, Nile River and Nile Delta, Red Sea, Upper and Lower Egypt, Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Thebes, the Valley of the Kings, and the Mediterranean Sea. Students also locate surrounding regions such as Nubia, Syria, Persia, Greece, Rome, and Assyria while learning about places connected to Egyptian history such as Giza, Karnak, Abu Simbel, and the Aswan High Dam.
Language Arts
Build vocabulary connected to Ancient Egypt while reading and writing about the Nile, Egyptian leadership, daily life, temples, pyramids, hieroglyphs, Egyptian beliefs, medicine, and historical figures. Activities include writing stories and narratives, comparing viewpoints, discussing beliefs and feelings, planning pyramid construction, working with hieroglyphic symbols and sayings, and studying terms connected to Egyptology and Egyptian literature.
History
Trace the history of Ancient Egypt from the First Dynasty through the rule of the pharaohs, the development of pyramids and hieroglyphics, Egyptian religion and burial practices, and the rise of rulers such as Hatshepsut, Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Ramesses II, and Cleopatra VII. Students also study the Hyksos, Greeks, Romans, Persians, the Rosetta Stone, the Battle of Kadesh, the Library of Alexandria, and the biblical plagues connected to Moses and Egypt.
Social Studies
Examine everyday life and society in Ancient Egypt through topics such as trade, transportation of goods, family structure, government, laws, social classes, assigned jobs, farming, artisans, education, jewelry, architecture, engineering, medicine, calendars, and religious beliefs. Students also learn about trade routes, neighboring cultures, Greek influence, and the spread of the Arabic language and Muslim armies into Egypt.
Art
Create Egyptian-inspired projects such as papyrus-style boats, symbols, woven items, tomb designs, pyramid drawings and blueprints, homemade paper and reed pens, Egyptian jewelry designs, water clocks, and Egyptian scrolls while studying styles and materials connected to Ancient Egyptian art and writing.
Bible
Follow the biblical connection between Egypt and the people of Israel through the lives of Abraham, Joseph, and Moses, the story of the Israelites in Egypt, and the plagues recorded in Exodus. The lessons also focus on God’s promises, obedience, freedom, wisdom, forgiveness, eternal life through Christ, the Ten Commandments, and God’s power over idols and earthly kingdoms through passages in Genesis, Exodus, Isaiah, Psalms, Proverbs, the Gospels, the Epistles, and Revelation.
